Renewable Energy Support Mechanism (YEKDEM) Deadline Has Been Extended
According to the Presidential Decree (“Decree”) published on 18 September 2020, the operational deadline to benefit from YEKDEM has been extended until 31 June 2021. As per the Law No. 5346, the eligible electricity generation facilities based on wind, solar, geothermal, biomass, biomass gas (including landfill gas), wave, current energy and tides, and electrical energy generation resources suitable for the establishment of a canal or river type or hydroelectric generation facilities with a reservoir area of less than fifteen square kilometres may benefit from YEKDEM. The generation facilities that may benefit from YEKDEM had to begin their operations (proven by the Ministry’s provisional acceptance by the transmission system operator) until 31 December 2020.
According to the Decree, the sunset date for the feed-in tariff for such eligible generation facilities is 31 December 2030.
Furthermore, if mechanical and/or electro-mechanical parts used in the generation facilities are manufactured in Turkey and these facilities begin their operations between 1 January 2021 and 30 June 2021, additional local content support will be added to the feed-in tariff. This support will be provided for five years starting from the date of the generation facility’s operation date.
